Hoops Recruiting Central: 2016 Update

It's been a busy couple of days since the 2016 contact period opened on Sunday. Catch up here.

It's been a busy few days since the 2016 contact period opened at midnight Saturday night.

Indiana offered 2016 power forward Omari Spellman today, giving him six new offers since the contact period opened. Spellman, a 6-foot-8, 270-pound forward, is an elite low-post presence, something the Hoosiers are looking for.

Spellman is from North Royalton, Ohio and will be at NBA Top 100 Camp this week, so we should get an update from him there. He also has offers from Cincinnati, Miami, Ohio, Dayton, Villanova and West Virginia.

As I reported on Sunday, Indiana coach Tom Crean was the first to call elite forward Jayson Tatum, the No. 2 overall player in the 2016 class. Tatum, a 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward from St. Louis, is one of the top scorers in the class.

"Indiana has been in contact with my family since my freshman year," Tatum told AllHoosiers.com. "I'm just trying to stay in touch with them and build a relationship right now. They really want to get me down on campus."

Do you think you'll visit Bloomington this summer?

"I hope to get a chance to," Tatum said.

Tatum also has offers from Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Memphis, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio State, Florida, St. Louis and Marquette.

I will continue to keep you posted on all of the comings and goings in the world of IU basketball recruiting throughout the summer. Stay tuned.
