Arkansas Now Has Morgan's Full Attention
Missouri prep basketball power forward Juwan Morgan was extremely impressed with the first thing Razorback head coach Mike Anderson showed to him when he arrived for an unofficial visit to Arkansas last week.
Morgan (6-8, 215), who Scout.com has rated as a four-star prospect, the 16th-best power forward and the 81st-best player nationally, was immediately education about the school's education opportunities.
"It was a great visit and what maybe impress me the most was we went straight to the academic side of things first," Morgan said. "That showed how much he cares about the total person and not just the basketball player.
"It was so well organized," Morgan added. "Everybody knows everything about their job, know what role they play in helping you get the best education. Everybody has the basketball, but I loved the concentration on academics."
Morgan, who lives three hours away from Fayetteville in Waynesville, also was impressed with his parting gift – a scholarship offer from Arkansas to join some 12 others.
"I wasn't really worried about not having the offer yet because they have always made it clear to me that I have been high on their radar and they just wanted to get me down to Fayetteville and show me how they do things," Morgan said. "I have a great relationship with Coach Anderson and have since I first came down there for his basketball camp in the ninth grade."
Morgan – who averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds for Waynesville last season as a junior - also got a chance to see the current Razorbacks in their summer workouts.
"They are a very competitive group of guys and were really getting after each other, which was really cool to see," Morgan said. "They are going to have a great year."
Morgan was also told about the new practice facility, which is being built across from Bud Walton Arena.
"Obviously it's just the frame over there now, but I got to see a picture of what it is suppose to look like when it is done in the spring of 2015," Morgan said. "That's huge because if you aren't able to get your work in then you are not going to be as good as you can be."
Morgan, an excellent student who already has a qualifying ACT score, also has offers from Indiana, Washington, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Creighton, Kansas State, Wake Forest, Missouri State, Iowa, Princeton, Penn and Northwestern.
"I know I am going to take officials to Indiana and Washington and to Arkansas, but I haven't set that one up yet," Morgan said. "I don't know about the rest yet."
He led his Waynesville squad to a 24-3 record last season before losing to Columbia Hickman and fellow Arkansas target Jimmy Whitt in the sectional round of the playoffs.
Morgan and his MOKAN Elite AAU team had success during EYBL play this spring and have qualified for the Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C., on July 16-20.
He's averaged 10.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 69 percent from the field.
"I think we have played really well and am looking forward to getting back with MOKAN soon," Morgan said. "We're looking forward to this next month."
