Vonleh drafted 9th overall by Charlotte

Former Indiana standout Noah Vonleh was drafted 9th overall by the Charlotte Hornets.

Former Indiana standout Noah Vonleh was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the 9th overall selection of the NBA Draft on Thursday night.

Vonleh was originally projected to be picked in the top five, but he slipped late in the day on Thursday. Kentucky's Julius Randle, Kansas' Joel Embiid and Arizona's Aaron Gordon were all selected before Vonleh.

Vonleh will join former Indiana forward Cody Zeller in Charlotte. Zeller was drafted by the then-Bobcats with the No. 4 overall pick last year.

"That direct flight from Indianapolis to Charlotte is only an hour and a half for all you IU fans!!!!"," Zeller tweeted after the selection.

Vonleh joins a roster that made the playoffs in the Eastern Conference this past season. He should be able to learn under Al Jefferson, an experienced and talented big man. The roster also includes Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

"Welcome to Charlotte @NoahVonleh," Walker tweeted after the selection. "I love that pick!"
