Top '16 post Davis ready to chat with Pitino

Aurora, Colo., top '16 center De'Ron Davis is building what he called a "strong relationship" with Louisville assistant coach Kenny Johnson. Davis updates Cardinal Authority on his recruiting process.

De'Ron Davis started hearing from the University of Louisville not long after Kenny Johnson took the job as assistant coach of the Cardinals' back in late April.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pound center from Aurora, Colo., said Johnson has been talking to him about the Cardinals and wants to take the next step.

"I like him a lot," Davis said. "He's talked to me about Louisville a lot and says he wants to get me on the phone with coach (Rick) Pitino.

"It's exciting because Louisville is a great school and a great program.

Davis currently holds offers from Indiana, Colorado, Arkansas, California and UCLA and has serious interest from "a lot of others."

"It's starting to blow up," Davis said, noting he had calls from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas on the first day of the contact period. "A lot of schools are coming after me now."

Davis said he's lost some weight and is really trying to focus on improving and "not worrying too much" about recruiting this summer.

"I need to get stronger and more explosive," he said. "It's a lot of fun but one day it's going to be a job. I want to improve and get better so I can be the best."

Davis said he "really wants to continue" his dialogue with Johnson and the Cardinals noting that he "would like to check them out," on an unofficial visit sometime this summer. Top Stories
