Checking in with IU targets before July Eval.

Here's a quick look at some of the guys Indiana coaches will be watching this week.

The July evaluation period is now upon us, meaning coaches are free to get out and watch recruits for the rest of the month.

Most AAU tournaments around the country tipoff tonight and run through the weekend, including the adidas Invitational in Indianapolis. Victor Oladipo is also teaming up with Ty Lawson for an event in Washington D.C.

I touched base with a few IU targets today just ahead of the evaluation period to get a quick idea where they stand with IU before things start getting crazy. We'll take another look when the evaluation period ends.

1. Juwan Morgan, F, 2015: Morgan has already taken an unofficial visit to Indiana, and he told the Hoosiers will definitely get one of his five official visits this fall, along with Washington. The other visits have not yet been set.

Morgan, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward from Missouri, is a four-star prospect and the No. 81 overall player in the class. He plays for the MOKAN Elite AAU team along with Shake Milton, another IU target in 2015.

Morgan will be playing in Chicago this weekend in an event that begins on Thursday.

2. SHAKE MILTON, G, 2015: I mentioned Milton above, and I also checked in with him. He said Indiana coach Tom Crean and assistant Steve McClain have been calling him "a lot". He has not yet decided on official visits, but Morgan believes his friend and teammate will also officially visit Indiana.

"We just keep in touch and talk about basketball, life and everything else," Milton said of the IU coaching staff.

Milton, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard from Oklahoma, is also a four-star prospect and the No. 90 overall player in the class.

3. Jayson Tatum, F, 2016: Tatum was the top overall player in the latest 2016 rankings released earlier this week. Crean was the first to call Tatum when the contact period opened on June 15, but Tatum told he hasn't heard from Indiana in awhile.

Tatum, a 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward from St. Louis, described his interest in the Hoosiers as "still very high." He also has early offers from Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Illinois, Memphis, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio State, Florida, St. Louis and Marquette.

4. T.J. Leaf, F, 2016: Not much to update with Leaf, a five-star recruit in the 2016 class. He said Indiana has remained in contact with him but he's moving slowly in the recruiting class. Should learn a lot more about him as the month progresses. Top Stories
