In Thursday's game against the Eric Gordon All-Stars, Blackwell, a 6-foot-8 forward, brought the ball up the floor the entire game. And he did it well.
Blackwell finished the game with seven points, six rebounds, four assists to two turnovers, and two blocks in a winning effort at the adidas Super 64.
"It's kind of difficult to play as a true point, but I'm still learning," Blackwell told AllHoosiers.com. "it's kind of fun."
On one play early in the second half, Blackwell caught the ball near half court, attacked the rim, leaped over a defender and laid it in for an and-one.
Tom Crean, who was sitting courtside for the game, smiled. He looked over at Blackwell's father behind the bench.
"Wow," he mouthed. "Wow, wow, wow."
Blackwell has been a priority in the 2016 class for Crean for sometime now, and that continues to be the case. Blackwell said he and Crean talk often.
"If coach Crean or somebody watches me, they'll just text me after the game and say, 'Good game' and stuff like that and tell me how they'll use me in their system," Blackwell said. "It's pretty interesting from what they've said."
Blackwell said he has gained new interest from North Carolina and Louisville in recent weeks. He already owns offers from Alabama, Auburn, California, Cincinnati, DePaul, Florida, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Missouri, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Providence, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Blackwell currently doesn't have any visits scheduled for August but he said he'd like to get back to Bloomington at some point soon.
"Indiana's a good school. A lot of great players go through there," Blackwell said. "I want to get down there for a basketball game this year. I tried to go to the Michigan game last year but it just didn't work out. Hopefully I'll get there this year."
