Yarborough named head coach at Stetson

Stetson University has hired Ernie Yarborough as its new head coach. Yarborough leaves the Hoosiers after spending four years on IU head coach Todd Yeagley's staff.

Indiana University men’s soccer assistant coach Ernie Yarborough was hired today by Stetson University as its new head coach, according to a release from Stetson’s athletics department.

Yarborough replaces the late T. Logan Fleck, who passed away earlier this month.

“Coach Yarborough came to our attention from multiple recommendations including several Stetson alums,” Stetson University Director of Athletics Jeff Altier said. “The search committee members, along with these former Hatters players, were extremely impressed with Coach Yarborough’s experience, work ethic, organization, integrity and commitment to the development of student-athletes.”

Yarborough spent four seasons on current IU head coach Todd Yeagley’s staff after coming over to IU with Yeagley from Wisconsin. He will begin his coaching duties for Stetson on Aug. 8.

“It is with great excitement and a heavy heart that I accept the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach at Stetson University,” Yarborough said in the release. “While I'm truly excited for this opportunity, I want to first pay my respects to the late Coach Fleck and all he has done, not only for Stetson University, but also for all of college soccer. Both Stetson and collegiate soccer are better off for all of the work he has done.

“I'd also like to thank Stetson University President Dr. Wendy Libby, Athletic Director Jeff Altier and Associate Athletic Director Alicia Queally for providing me with the opportunity and confidence to guide Stetson Men's Soccer going forward. It has been a dream of mine for some time to lead a Division I program, and I look forward to using my depth of knowledge and skill to help take Stetson to new heights both on the field and in the classroom."

Yarborough played under Yeagley’s father, former IU head coach Jerry Yeagley, from 1991-1995 as a goalkeeper for the men’s soccer program, winning four Big Ten titles and appearing in two Final Fours. He spent one year playing professional soccer before pursuing his coaching career, which has included stops at Wisconsin, UAB, and Michigan.

“Stetson has made a fantastic hire with Ernie Yarborough,” Todd Yeagley said in the release. “Ernie has all the qualities and skills to run a championship program. Ernie will be sorely missed at IU and we are thankful for all his years of loyal work at Indiana. Ernie will do a wonderful job building upon T. Logan Fleck’s legacy at Stetson.”
