Ray Kasango, a 2014 big man prospect from just outside Toronto, Canada, will not visit Indiana, as was originally planned. Kasongo was scheduled to take an official visit to Bloomington on Sunday and Monday, but was denied admittance to the school due to a low GPA.
Kasango, a 6-foot-9 forward, was signed with Oregon, but was also unable to enroll there because of his GPA. He is NCAA eligible.
After being denied at Oregon, Kasango quickly gained interest from Indiana, LSU, Kansas, Michigan State and others. He cut his list to just IU and LSU, but then cancelled his visit to LSU. Sources told AllHoosiers.com that Kasongo was Indiana's if it wanted him and if he could be admitted to the school.
IU can offer immediate playing time because of its lack of depth on the front court, and that was attractive to Kasongo. But it doesn't matter now because he was not admitted.
Indiana is still recruiting Emmitt Holt, a 6-foot-6 prospect, in the 2014 class, and he is scheduled to visit IU this week.
We will continue to cover basketball recruiting throughout the year. Stay tuned.
