Every Wednesday beginning this week, AllHoosiers.com's Ben Faunce will have a weekly feature looking back at how IU's football commits in the class of 2015 fared the week before.
Here is the first installment.
Indiana had multiple in-state commitments in action in the first week of the season on Friday night. There were three notable performances from the weekend’s action.
Quarterback commit Tommy Stevens of Decatur Central played well, although it wasn’t enough as his squad fell to Franklin Central 26-21. Stevens, however, managed to throw for a solid 265 passing yards, completing 16 of his 26 passing attempts. He also ran for 40 yards on 12 carries and tacked on a rushing touchdown as well.
Westfield defensive end Jacob Robinson put up a good effort as well. The Indiana commit had three total tackles, including a sack, in a 35-14 victory over Harrison.
Another Hoosier commit in action was Joe Belden of Avon, who took on Lawrence Central H.S. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and the defensive end shined on the bright stage, collecting five tackles, two of them for a loss, to go along with a sack and two quarterback hurries. Belden’s energy helped spark a comeback from a 23-7 halftime deficit to win 38-31.
