It's not a real busy time for Indiana basketball recruiting, but there are several things going on, and the scene will continue to get busier as we near Hoosier Hysteria in October.
First things first: The Hoosiers hosted 2015 guard Shake Milton on his official visit last weekend, and all indications are that it went well. Milton wasn't able to get to Bloomington until midday Saturday due to a freak fire in Chicago that stopped air travel, but he was in town for the home football game on Saturday afternoon and stayed until Sunday.
It wasn't a great showing from the IU football team, but the weather was great and the crowd was good. Well, early in the game, at least.
Milton, a top 100 guard from Oklahoma, spent most of his time with freshmen James Blackmon Jr., Robert Johnson and Max Hoetzel. He was seen at the football game with Blackmon Jr., a McDonalds All-American last year.
Milton is close friends with 2015 forward and recent Indiana commit Juwan Morgan, so that could play a factor in his decision. But the Hoosiers are stacked with elite guards, so Milton would have to really work to earn early playing time.
The 6-foot-4 guard is also still considering Oklahoma, his state school, and SMU. He took official visits to both and has seen Oklahoma numerous times because of the proximity.
Milton told me he plans to make his decision in about a week or two.
It's hard for me to get a real good gauge on this one just because you don't know how much of a factor staying close to home would be. Oklahoma and SMU are obviously much closer to home than Indiana, but maybe having a close friend like Morgan in town will help.
**Rawle Alkins, an elite guard in the 2016 class from Brooklyn, N.Y., told me last night he is currently working on scheduling an unofficial trip to Bloomington for this fall. Alkins, 6-foot-4, is a strong combo guard and also has offers from Cincinnati, George Washington, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Minnesota, N.C. State, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida and Villanova.
**Indiana will check in on 2016 guard Bruce Brown today, according to Adam Zagoria. Brown, a 6-foot-3 guard from Vermont, is a top 100 prospect. This will be the third time Indiana has seen Brown recently.
That's all for today. More to come later this week.Official Visit Recap: Shake Milton
