With the playoffs in full swing, multiple Indiana commits led their teams to victories in last weekend’s action.
Tommy Stevens led a game winning drive in the snow, which was capped off by a 13-yard touchdown scamper with 31 seconds remaining, to earn Indianapolis (Ind.) Decatur Central a 24-20 win in its first game of the IHSAA Football State Playoffs. Decatur Central will take on Cathedral in the sectional championship this week.
Nick Westbrook caught two passes for 41 yards and one touchdown to help Lake Mary (Fla.) continue its undefeated season Friday, taking down University 41-27. Westbrook has recorded 149 career receptions, which is a Lake Mary High School record. On the season, Westbrook has 62 catches for 1,253 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Titus Booker sat out due to a hamstring injury. In his absence, Grayslake North (Ill.) fell to St. Francis 26-24 in the first round of the IHSA Football Playoffs. Booker finished his senior season just shy of the 2,000-yard mark, tallying 1,931 yards on 184 carries, an average of 10.5 yards per rush attempt. He also found the end zone 26 times. In his high school career, Booker rushed for 3,914 yards and 51 touchdowns.
Joe Belden and Avon (Ind.) lost to Ben Davis 34-27 in the second round of the IHSAA Football State Tournament. Belden finished his senior season with 53 total tackles, 28 solo tackles, four sacks, six quarterback hurries and three pass deflections.
Leon Thornton and Montini (Ill.) dominated DuSable in a 56-8 victory in the first round of the IHSA Football Playoffs. Thornton caught two of Montini’s three completed passes, gaining 36 yards and one touchdown. He also recorded one carry for eight yards. Thornton now has 41 receptions for 588 yards and nine touchdowns in his senior season.
Omari Stringer and Crete-Monee (Ill.) lost in the first round of the IHSA Football Playoffs to Yorkville 21-19.
Hunter Littlejohn anchored an offensive line that allowed Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty to put up 370 total yards in a 34-0 win over Thomas Worthington.
Simon Stepaniak and Hamilton (Ohio) Ross fell to Talawanda 28-13.
Austin Dorris and Shadyside (Ohio) had a bye week last week. They will face Danville in the first round of the OHSAA Football Playoffs this week.
