Ferrell named to Wooden Top 50 watch list

Indiana's Yogi Ferrell was among the players on the Wooden Top 50 watch list, released Monday.

Indiana junior point guard Yogi Ferrell was named to the Wooden Award Top 50 watch list, which was released on Monday. The Wooden Award goes to the nation's best player each year.

Ferrell is one of seven Big Ten players among the top 50, along with Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker, Michigan State's Branden Dawson, Michigan's Caris LeVert, Nebraska's Terran Petteway and Maryland's Dez Wells. Kaminsky is among the favorites to win the award.

SMU guard Nic Moore, a Warsaw, Ind. native, is also on the list. He and Ferrell will likely be matched up when SMU comes to Bloomington on Thursday.

The last Indiana player to win the Wooden Award was Calbert Cheaney in 1993. Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller were the last Indiana players to be nominated for the award. Both were finalists in 2013.

Other notable names on the list: Georgia State's R.J. Hunter (Indianapolis native), Georgetown's D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indiana native, IU plays), Louisville's Terry Rozier and Montrezl Harrell (IU plays). Four Kentucky players made the list.

Indiana will play 10 of the other 49 players on the list during the regular season.
