Indiana sophomore Troy Williams was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday after his brilliant 22-point, 11-rebound effort in an 82-73 win over Butler on Saturday. Williams shared the honors with Maryland's Jake Layman.
It's fitting that Williams should be named the Player of the Week after his most consistent stretch in an Indiana uniform. After he hurt IU's chances to upset No. 4 Louisville with his poor play, Williams responded with two of his best games as a Hoosier in succession.
For the week, Williams averaged 18 points and 9.5 rebounds, while turning the ball over only two times in 50 total minutes. That's significant progress. Williams was 14-of-26 from the field in the two games combined.
The Hoosiers are back in action tonight in their final cupcake game of the season against New Orleans. Tip time is 7 p.m., but the game will not be televised.
