Blackmon Jr. named B1G Freshman of the Week

James Blackmon Jr. earned his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after scoring 18 points Saturday against Ohio State.

Indiana guard James Blackmon Jr. had one really good half of basketball last week.

He scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half Saturday to help lead IU to a 69-66 victory over No. 22 Ohio State at Assembly Hall.

That one half, however, was good enough for Blackmon to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Blackmon scored nine points in the final 5 minutes including a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line against the Buckeyes.

Blackmon currently leads IU in scoring and is seventh in the Big Ten with a 16.7 points per game average. His 88.3 percent free throw percentage ranks second in the Big Ten.

This is Blackmon’s second freshman of the week honor. He also earned the nod on Nov. 24, 2014.
