Notebook: Commits talk about IU class of '15

In this football recruiting notebook, three Indiana commits talk about what Kevin Wilson and his staff have put together in the class of 2015. Signing day is Wednesday.

This week, AllHoosiers.com has been reaching out to several Indiana football commits to talk to them about what they think about the class that Kevin Wilson has assembled to this point. Saturday, we had a story on Jacob Robinson.

Today, we have comments from a number of IU commits. AllHoosiers.com’s Ben Faunce contributed to this report.

Tyler Green, a safety from Dematha Catholic in Hyattsville, Md., said he likes the things that Indiana is doing with this recruiting class.

“The class is pretty strong,’’ Green said this week. “With last year’s class combined with this year’s class, Indiana is slowly but surely making moves to be what we need to be. It’s not going to happen in one season but I think this year’s class will make a big impact.’’

Wide receiver Leon Thornton, from Montini (Ill.) Catholic, feels like IU is picking up some big recruits in this class.

“They’re really good guys that the coaches have been wanting to get all year,’’ Thornton said. “We’re amazing, I think according to ESPN we’re number eight in the Big Ten. We kind of got some guys that will get the opportunity and can show some things. I think the pieces are going to fit together. I just can’t wait to get started.’’

Brandon Wilson, who committed in early January from Winter Haven (Fla.) West Orange, said the reason he flipped to Indiana was that he wanted to be a part of something special. He believes that is being built by Wilson and his staff at IU.

“It’s easy to join something that has already been established but I wanted to be part of building something special,’’ Wilson said.

Wilson said he’s looking forward to potentially playing as an outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Brian Knorr’s 3-4 system.

“I feel like you need size and speed to play either the outside linebacker or defensive end positions,’’ Wilson said. “I feel like I have both.

That’s a few quick hits from members of the 2015 IU football recruiting class that will have the opportunity to sign with the Hoosiers on Wednesday.
