Elston eyeing next pro stop

Derek Elston was at Assembly Hall Sunday for Indiana's 70-67 victory over Michigan. He spoke to AllHoosiers.com after the game.

There were several former Indiana basketball players in attendance Sunday afternoon when Indiana beat Michigan 70-67 at Assembly Hall.

Will Sheehey, Matt Roth, Daniel Moore and Tom Pritchard were some of those in attendance.

Another was Derek Elston, who graduated from IU following the 2012-13 season.

Elston played his first season professionally with Floriana in Malta and last year he was with Illiabum in Portugal.

In nine games in Portugal, Elston averaged 24.7 minutes per game. He averaged 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds. He made 52.2 percent of his shots from the field, 34.6 percent from 3-point range and 81.5 percent from the line.

Elston said he returned home to the United States about a month ago and is now considering his next stop.

"I'm hoping to catch on with a team in Australia,'' Elston said. "I should know in the next few weeks. If it works out I'll be leaving about a month to go prepare. They start their season in April.
