Bracketologists disagree on IU's fate

One notable bracketology report said late Saturday that Indiana was out of the 2015 field. Another one said the Hoosiers were still in. So who is right? With less than 24 hours until the field is revealed we look at where Indiana stands with the experts.

It is less than 24 hours until we find out whether or not Indiana is in the NCAA Tournament field for 2015.

ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has Indiana on the outside looking in after Wyoming won the Mountain West tournament Saturday night beating San Diego State and earning the conference’s automatic bid.

But another noted bracketologist, Jerry Palm of CBS Sports.com, still has Indiana in the field. In fact he has them as the safest of the final four teams still in the tournament bracket.

So which one of these guys is right? Indiana fans are clearing hitching their wagons to Palm (a Purdue graduate by the way) but he and Lunardi are clearly not on the same page on a few of the bubble teams.

Here is how things played out Saturday night, shortly after Wyoming beat San Diego State 45-43 to earn the conference’s automatic bid.

First, Lunardi’s latest bracketology report had Indiana among the first four out of the tournament after the Hoosiers had clung to the final spot for a few days in the last four in.

According to Lunardi, the last four in the tournament going into Sunday were Temple, LSU, Boise State and Ole Miss. His first four out were Indiana, UCLA, Miami (Fla.) and Old Dominion.

But Palm disagreed. His last four in the tournament field included IU, Colorado State, Ole Miss and BYU. His last four out were Temple, Tulsa, Miami (Fla.) and Texas A&M.

Palm has IU playing Colorado State in a play-in game either Tuesday or Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio for a chance to get in the NCAA Tournament field.

But there are literally dozens and dozens of people doing bracketology reports. In fact, there are more than 50. The Bracket Matrix charts all of them and the majority it appears still had IU in the field as of late Saturday night. Indiana was averaging an 11 seed across the board in the Bracket Matrix report.

Here is a look at the Bracket Matrix in detail.

There’s a lot of uncertainty but there is one thing we know.

It will all be over very soon and IU’s fate will have been determined.
