Hoosier Intel: On Yogi, a big man, and Crean

Here's an look at some of the most newsworthy things involving Indiana basketball this week.

Indiana's tumultuous season came to an end last Friday afternoon with a narrow 81-76 loss to Wichita State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It was certainly an unusual and trying season for the Hoosiers, their coach, and their fans. But then again, what is "normal" in this day and age of sports?

We now move into an offseason full of many more questions than answers. Next year's roster could very well look similar -- and better -- than this year's, or it could have some significant changes. Here's a look at a few things making news this week that could affect the future.

Indiana point guard Yogi Ferrell took to Instagram on Monday to thank Indiana fans for sticking with the team through a trying year. Ferrell, a junior, could leave school and try his luck in the NBA Draft, though he's likely to be nothing better than a second round pick.

"Thank you Hoosier Nation for being there with us this season with all the scrutiny and bad mouthing we got, you guys stuck by us," Ferrell wrote. "From being picked 12th in the Big Ten to being a NCAA tournament team we stuck together and overcame adversity."

Ferrell's message could be a sign that he's leaning toward leaving school, but without a doubt, it's a positive PR move from a kid that became more likable by the game this season. Ferrell has come a long way since his arrest during Little 500 week last year, both as a player and as a human being. His post on Instagram is just the latest example of the latter. He gets it.

Everybody knows that Indiana needs to add a big man in the 2015 class, and Thomas Bryant would be a great fit. The 6-foot-10 McDonalds All-American from Huntington Prep in West Virginia visited IU for the Michigan State game earlier this month, and many believe the Hoosiers are the favorite to land him.

I've been told by sources close to the program that the Indiana coaching staff believes it is in good shape with Bryant and is "hopeful" it can add him to Juwan Morgan and O.G. Anunoby in this class. A decision is not imminent, though, so it's too early to know for sure what what Bryant is leaning.

ON Tom Crean

Whether you want to hear it or not, I fully expect Tom Crean to be back at Indiana next season. I have heard nothing to indicate that he won't be. Crean has been out recruiting quite a bit this week.

Troy Williams will return to school for his junior season, his mother said on Facebook this week. That's not a big surprise. Williams is athletic, and he may eventually play in the NBA, but he's nowhere near ready right now.
