At least one preseason poll has IU in top 10

The early (emphasis on the word 'early') preseason rankings are coming out for the 2015-16 season and Indiana basketball is getting some notice. At least one poll has Indiana tabbed in the top 10. Read on to learn more.

The early preseason rankings for the 2015-16 season always come out right after the Final Four and several have been rolled out already.

In at least one of them, Indiana is being picked as a top 10 team next season.

The top 25 released by SI.com has the Hoosiers ranked No. 9 in the nation next season. Obviously this is banking on the fact that everyone returns and that IU commit Thomas Bryant signs with IU. Bryant can sign his letter beginning April 15.

The top 10, according to SI.com, is Virginia in the No. 1 position followed by North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Maryland, Iowa State, Duke, Michigan State, Indiana and Oklahoma.

Michigan, Wisconsin and Purdue are also all ranked in the top 20.

Two other state schools, Butler and Notre Dame, were ranked No. 22 and No. 24 respectively.

Here’s a link to that top 25.

As always, however, there is a major difference of opinion when it comes to these early polls. A top 25 from NBC Sports, for example, didn’t list IU in the top 25. Another one, from USA Today, had the Hoosiers ranked No. 20.

The oddsmakers, though, seem to think Indiana could have a big year, too.

In the earliest odds released by Bovada that give odds to win the national championship in 2016, Indiana is one of five schools listed at 25-to-1. Eight schools have better odds than that led by North Carolina at 6-1 and Kentucky at 8-1.
