Indiana football will play a home and home series with Virginia beginning in 2017, the university announced Tuesday.

IU will travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Sept. 9, 2017 and then will play host to Virginia on Sept. 8, 2018.

IU athletic director Fred Glass said he believed this agreement just adds to some good non-conference opponents over the next few years.

"As I have previously noted, like IU, the University of Virginia is one of the premier public universities from one of the top conferences in the country,'' Glass said in a release put out by the school. "In addition to previously announced series against UConn (2019, 2020), Cincinnati (2021, 2022) and Ball State (2018-2020), this matchup is appealing to our players, alumni and fans.''

IU will open the 2015 season in Memorial Stadium on Sept. 5 against Southern Illinois.
