Schwarber off to good start in Double A

Here is a look at how Kyle Schwarber, Sam Travis, Dustin DeMuth and Joey DeNato are faring in the early going in minor league baseball. All four were on the 2014 Indiana baseball roster.

Kyle Schwarber has already belted his first home run in Double A baseball and is hitting. 333 for the first four games.

Schwarber is 4-for-12 in the early going for the Tennessee Smokies, the Chicago Cubs AA affiliate in the Southern league.

Schwarber has one home run and two RBI to date. His solo home run came on April 11 at Mississippi.

IN a total of 76 minor league games since the end of last year’s college baseball season, Schwarber is hitting .343 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI.

Here is also a look at how the other three players drafted off the Indiana baseball roster from a year ago are faring.

Sam Travis is playing High A ball with Salem in the Carolina League. Travis is off to a slow start hitting .143 through the first six games. He does have a home run. Travis is the Red Sox organization.

Dustin DeMuth is playing Low A ball with Wisconsin in the Midwest League. The Brewers prospect is off to a solid start with eight hits in his first 23 at bats, a .348 average.

Joey DeNato has only appeared in three innings in two games to date and is 0-1 but he has an 0.00 ERA. DeNato is with Lakewood in Low A ball in the Phillies organization.
