If Indiana baseball hopes to get back into the race for one of the top eight spots in the conference and a berth into the Big Ten postseason tournament, it needs to start tonight.
IU is on the road for the next three games at Maryland. Tonight’s game begins at 6:30 p.m. ET in College Park, Md.
Indiana (23-19, 6-10 Big Ten) will be out to snap a four-game losing streak that includes a pair of losses to Michigan State last weekend as well as midweek losses this week to Evansville and Indiana State.
Maryland is one of the top teams in the Big Ten this season with an 11-4 conference mark.
This is just the second meeting all time between IU and Maryland. The other one was in 1987.
IU hasn’t fared particularly well this season in true road games. IU is 5-11 in true road contests and 11-12 overall in games played away from Bart Kaufman Field. IU has dropped four games in a row on the road.
IU coach Chris Lemonis said Wednesday that he expects Jake Kelzer to get the ball today in the first game of the series. Kelzer is 3-3 this year. He’ll go up against one of the Big Ten’s best in Mike Shawaryn who is a perfect 10-0 this year.
