Schwarber called up to the majors for Cubs

Former IU catcher Kyle Schwarber will be called up to the big leagues by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

Former Indiana catcher Kyle Schwarber is about the make is big-league debut.

Schwarber, a first-round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs last year, will be called up on Tuesday, Cubs general manager Theo Epstein said Monday. The Cubs are playing two interleague road series this week, and Schwarber will serve as a designated hitter. He will be the Cubs' third catcher.

Schwarber had been playing at Double-A Tennessee, where he was hitting .320 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs.

"Regardless of how this week goes, Kyle will head to Triple-A (Iowa) after Sunday's game," Epstein said. Top Stories
