IU adds South Carolina transfer Wesley Green

The Hoosiers are getting secondary help, but it won't be able to take advantage of it this year.

Four-star cornerback and former South Carolina player Wesley Green is transferring to Indiana, the program announced Monday. Green, the No. 21-ranked cornerback by Scout in the 2014 class, will redshirt this upcoming season and won't be eligible until the beginning of the 2016 season.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson announced on Monday the addition of cornerback Wesley Green to the program. The 5-10, 175-pounder will not be eligible this year after transferring from the University of South Carolina, where he redshirted the 2014 season.

"We recruited Wesley; Coach Brandon Shelby has a strong relationship with him and he contacted us when he left South Carolina," Wilson said. "We welcome him to our program. He's a talented young man and he will be a quality contributor."

Green graduated from Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia, Ga., and chose the Gamecocks over Georgia and Ole Miss. He recorded five interceptions as a senior.

Ranked a four-star prospect by ESPN.com, Rivals.com, Scout.com and 247Sports.com, ESPN.com rated Green the No. 9 prospect in Georgia, the No. 13 cornerback nationally and the No. 120 prospect overall. Rivals.com listed him as No. 17 in Georgia, the No. 17 cornerback and No. 208 overall.

Scout.com placed Green as the No. 21 cornerback and No. 209 overall. 247Sports.com recognized him No. 13 in Georgia, the No. 15 cornerback and No. 185 overall.

Born on Sept. 29, 1995, Green is a criminal justice major.
