Indiana released its first official depth chart of the 2015 season Tuesday. Glancing over the roster, there's nothing that really stands out or is unexpected.
One notable position on the depth chart, however, is left tackle. There, senior Jason Spriggs is backed up by true freshman and Noblesville (Ind.) High School grad Brandon Knight. Based on what I heard and when I talked to Indiana offensive line coach Greg Frey and the team's media day in early August, Frey seemed very pleased with the work and progress of the freshman.
Another freshman from Hamilton County, defensive end and Westfield (Ind.) High School grad Jacob Robinson, also appears to have made a sizable impression on the coaching staff as he's listed as the third defensive end on the depth chart.
The position with arguably the post uncertainty was strong safety. Throughout preseason camp, Jameel Cook, Tony Fields and Kiante Walton all got time at the position. Fields presumably had the strongest play of the three, as he will start at strong safety alongside redshirt sophomore Chase Dutra, who will start at free safety. Jonathan Crawford, who also got reps at the position during preseason camp, is listed as the backup strong safety behind Fields.
