Indiana offers 2018 guard Robert Phinisee

Indiana offered a scholarship to 2018 McCutcheon guard Robert Phinisee on Thursday.

Indiana has offered 2018 McCutcheon guard Robert Phinisee, as was first to report earlier Thursday evening. Phinisee, a 5-foot-9 prospect, is a pass-first point guard with elite vision.

I saw him play countless times over the summer with Indiana Elite, and was always impressed with his court presence, leadership, defense and passing ability. He's a true old-school point guard.

This is Phinisee's first scholarship offer.

"It's great. Really shocked me," Phinisee told "IU is a great school. It's a great academic and athletic school. I'm just so thankful for him to offer me a scholarship."

Indiana started recruiting Phinisee in late July after watching him play at the Adidas Summer Championships in Las Vegas. Purdue and Butler have also shown early interest.

"I called coach [Tom] Crean just to see how their workouts were going," Phinisee said. "We got to talking about my recruitment and how I didn't have any offers yet. Then he told me he was going to offer me a scholarship."

Phinisee hasn't yet taken a visit to Bloomington, but he said he''ll definitely take a trip down before the end of September. Top Stories
