Indiana athletic director Fred Glass announced several pieces of advice to fans that will be attending Saturday’s season opener at Memorial Stadium.
With a large amount of State Road 37 being down to one lane Glass suggested that fans leave early, work with local police and use an alternate route to Bloomington. He provided three alternate routes, including:
State Highway 67 south to Spencer, then State Highway 46 east into Bloomington.
I-65 south toward Columbus to State Highway 46 west into Bloomington.
I-70 west towards 231-south and then State Highway 46 east into Bloomington.
The first two routes are estimated to take 1 hour and 20 minutes while the final route is estimated to be 1 hour and 45 minutes of travel.
Glass has also been working with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and I-69 Developers to create additional assistance to travelers. INDOT has agreed to extend green lights, attempt to limit lane restrictions and enhance communication for travelers.
For updates while traveling, fans can text “IUFB” to 313131 for text alerts regarding travel, traffic, weather and emergency situations or follow @OurIndiana on twitter.
Fans are also encouraged to purchase a prepaid parking pass to ensure a spot by calling 1-866-IUSPORTS. This year IU athletics staff and game day personnel will be parking away from the stadium to open up additional spots for fans.
Other lots that fans can park in include the Fee Lane Garage, Poplars Garage and Henderson Garage.
Lastly, lots will remain open overnight for fans to take part in postgame tailgating. Any fans that take an alternate route to the stadium are encouraged to take that same route when leaving.
