Indiana is ranked No. 15 in the first AP basketball poll of the year.

The first AP basketball poll of the season was released Monday, and Indiana checked in at No. 15.

That has been about the consensus number for the Hoosiers throughout the preseason.

North Carolina is the No. 1 team to open the year, followed by Kentucky. Maryland is the top Big Ten team at No. 3, Michigan State is No. 13, Wisconsin is No. 17, Purdue is 23rd and Michigan is 25th.

The Hoosiers received 755 votes, two fewer than No. 14 California but 256 more than No. 16 Utah.

Indiana opens its exhibition season with a game against the University of Ottawa on Tuesday night.
