Wake Forest upsets No. 13 Indiana 82-78

Indiana goes cold on offense late, shows familiar defensive lapses in 82-78 loss to Wake Forest at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

Final Score

Wake Forest 82, No. 13 Indiana 78

Leading Scorer

Wake Forest big man Devin Thomas led all scorers with 21 points on 10-for-18 shooting from the field to go along with eight rebounds. IU forward Troy Williams led the Hoosiers with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and added three rebounds.

Turning Point

IU sophomore guard James Blackmon Jr.'s 3-pointer near the left wing with 9:07 to play in the game sparked a 9-0 Indiana run to put it up 72-63 over Wake Forest. But after that, Hoosiers' offense went cold and the Demon Deacons stepped defensively. A pair of Bryant Crawford free throws cut the Wake Forest deficit to seven and began a 19-6 run over the final 7 minutes and 9 seconds of the game. Crawford went by Indiana freshman center Thomas Braynt on pick-and-roll plays on Wake Forest's final two possesions.

Surprise Standout

Wake Forest center Dinos Mitoglou finished with 18 points - all in the first half - and eight rebounds. The Wake Forest frontcourt had its way with Indiana overall, as Mitoglou and Thomas combined for 39 of the Demon Deacons' 52 points in the paint.

Freshmen Performances

Thomas Bryant finished with eight points and eight rebounds in 28 minutes starting at center. O.G. Anunoby went 0-for-1 from the field in 3 minutes off the bench. Juwan Morgan did not accumulate any stats in one minute off the bench.
