Indiana falls to UNLV 72-69, finishes 6th at Maui Invitational

Playing its third game in as many days, the Hoosiers looked fatigued and couldn't muster the energy to come back in their 72-69 loss to the Runnin' Rebels. Indiana went 1-2 during its trip to Maui and falls to 4-2 overall on the season.

Leading Scorer

UNLV guard Patrick McCaw led all scorers with 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field, adding six assists. Nick Zeisloft led Indiana with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.  

Turning Point

After a Troy Williams layup pulled Indiana within two with 8:22 left, UNLV guard Ike Nwamu responded with a 3-pointer to put the Rebels up 5. That was just the start, though, as the 3-pointer sparked a 12-1 UNLV run. Indiana freshman forward Juwan Morgan's free throw was the lone point in the run. Zeisloft's 3-pointer cut the lead to 10 with 3:50 remaining, but it was Indiana's first field goal in nearly 2 1/2 minutes. Additionally, Indiana turned the ball over 4 times in the final 5 1/2 minutes of the game. 

Surprise Standout

Nwamu entered the game as UNLV's sixth-leading scorer at 6.4 points per game. He finished with 16 against IU on 6-for-11 shooting from the field, which, at 54 percent, far exceeded his season average of 33 percent. 

Freshmen Performances

Thomas Bryant finished with 7 points and 3 rebounds in 25 minutes starting at center. Juwan Morgan had 1 point, 2 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal in 9 minutess off the bench. O.G. Anunoby committed a turnover in 3 minutes off the bench.
