Indiana guard Robert Johnson missed the final 3 games of the regular season due to an ankle injury, but I'm told he's feeling better and will play in Friday's Big Ten Tournament game in Indianapolis. Johnson could have played on Sunday, but the Indiana staff thought it was a better idea to get him extra rest before the postseason.
Freshman Juwan Morgan re-injured his shoulder on Sunday against Maryland, an injury that has plagued him throughout the year. He didn't practice fully until Saturday, but played through pain against the Terps and played very well. In the second half, though, he stood hunched over in significant pain and was taken to the locker room.
Indiana coach Tom Crean said afterward that Morgan was very sore.
“He’s in good spirits, but he’s sore," Crean said after Sunday's win. "We’ve been down this road before. He’s in a lot of pain. It’s tough.”
Morgan has been a key piece for Indiana during its Big Ten title run, and the Hoosiers will need him in the postseason. Luckily for Morgan and IU, he'll have a couple extra days to rest because Indiana earned a double-bye. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit out the Big Ten Tournament so he's fully healthy for the Big Dance.
