Four-star point guard Tremont Waters of South Kent (Conn.) and the Expression Elite AAU program cut his list to a final seven Wednesday night.
Waters said his finalists are Georgetown, Duke, Kansas, Indiana, Connecticut, Kentucky and Yale, in no particular order.
The 5-foot-11 point guard is ranked No. 41 nationally in the 2017 class by Scout.com.
Indiana coach Tom Crean and his assistants watched every Expressions Elite game at the Peach Jam and have been very active watching them in the spring as well.
Waters said he sees himself in a Yogi Ferrell or Tyler Ulis mold.
“Definitely because they’re the same size, the same type of body frame and pretty much do the same things I do, but all the coaches are saying I can shoot it a little bit better,” he said this summer.
“I could definitely see myself in their shoes.”
IU is recruiting three Expressions Elite players: Waters, five-star center Nick Richards and four-star forward Jermaine Samuels.
Waters said at the Peach Jam during the first July recruiting period that he noticed several schools watching.
“I see a few familiar faces like Coach Cal, Coach Thompson from Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas, Duke was there, pretty much the schools I’ve been talking to. Those are the ones I have seen the past few days,” he told Scout.com's Steve Clark.
Waters also said he’s looking to take visits in the fall.
Is Indiana likely to receive a visit?
“I would say so when the time is right,” he said.
Waters also had a very good NBPA Top 100 camp in June.
He showed he plays hard, gets into the opposing point guard on defense, passes well, has quickness and it’s very difficult to take the ball from him.
In one of his games, Waters was a big key in the final five minutes as his team won 85-81.
