Hot Board: Class of 2018 - End of summer update

It's the end of the summer and new rankings our out, making it an ideal time to update our Class of 2018 hot board.

Scout100 Rankings: Class of 2018

2018 Targets

http://www.scout.com/player/194436-darius-garland?s=75

AAU Team: St. Louis Eagles (Nike)

AAU Spring Stats: 13.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.7 topg, 41.5 FG%, 39.5 3FG%, 76.7 FT%

Ranking History: Trending even: (12, 12)

Key Dates: March 6, 2016 - Darius Garland sneaks in as under the radar recruit visiting for Senior Day game versus Maryland.

@dariusgarland22

EVALUATION (Scout.com)

One of the premier lead guard prospects in the 2018 class, Garland possesses good size, length and quickness for the position. Garland plays at a good pace and changes his speeds well. Garland is a quality passer that can whip pinpoint passes with either hand. Although young, Garland has already shown a strong ability to operate in pick and roll situations. The 6-foot-2 guard makes good decision coming off screens and is a threat to find an open teammate, step behind a screen and bury a shot or make a play from the mid-range area. One of Garland's biggest strengths is his ability to make shots from three. He has deep range on his shot, good shot preparation and a fairly quick release. He's also developed a comfort level from mid-range, where he's capable of connecting on pull-ups or dropping in floaters.

RECRUITING NOTES

Besides Indiana, Garland has made trips to Louisville and Vanderbilt. With his big spring, most of the top elite high majors are already on his trail.

http://www.scout.com/player/198048-romeo-langford?s=75

AAU Team: Eric Gordon All-Stars (adidas Gauntlet)

AAU Stats: 23.6 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.1 topg, 56.4 FG%, 30.8 3FG%, 75.6 FT%

Ranking History: Trending even (2, 3)

Key Dates: March 19, 2016 - in what was probably one of the best ever single game performances by an Indiana high school player in the state tourney, Langford scores 43 points in first 22 minutes of a semistate game and finishes with 46 against a Southport team with two high major talents (Paul Scruggs, Joey Brunk). New Albably went on to win Class 4A.

@yeahyeah_22

EVALUATION (Peegs)

Langford is one of the smoothest players we've seen in the prep ranks, just an effortless scorer. Has a way of slithering to the basket to make easy finishes against taller players. Streaky shooter but has a terrific pull back shot. The way he shoots his jumper is similar to former NBA star Kobe Bryant. Showed unselfish play at key times in helping lead New Albany to the 4A state title.

RECRUITING NOTES

Some of the early talk on Langford centers on Indiana, Duke, Kentucky and Louisville with Purdue, North Carolina and Kansas getting some mention. Certainly looks like a one and done college player.

http://www.scout.com/player/204382-musa-jallow?s=75

AAU Team: Team Blaze (None)

AAU Spring Stats: N/A

Ranking History: Trending even (NR, NR)

Key Dates: December 14, 2015 - Jallow receives surprise offer from Indiana coach Tom Crean.

@mjallow21

EVALUATION (Peegs)

Jallow has great length and potential to be a very good defensive player. Shot needs work but can be very effective from mid-range. Good athlete with nice strength. Versatile.

RECRUITING NOTES

Indiana obviously in great early shape. Jallow plays on same North team as Riley Crean, son of the Indiana coach. Will be important for him to continue to show progress but he had a nice July which led to offers from the likes of Virginia and Vanderbilt. Cavs could be tough here along with Indiana. Jallow an excellent student.

http://www.scout.com/player/204174-robert-phinisee?s=75

AAU Team: Indiana Elite (adidas Gauntlet)

AAU Stats: N/A

Ranking History: Trending slightly up (70, 62)

Key Dates: September 3, 2015 - Phinisee gets early scholarship offer from Indiana, his first from any college.

@robphinisee1

EVALUATION (Peegs)

About as pure of a point guard as you'll see on the prep circuit. Phinisee is a very efficient player. Not a lot of forced shots and takes the jumper when the defense sags off. Appeared quicker and stronger this summer which may shore up his ability to finish. Not a good shooter yet but has games where he does hit multiple threes.

RECRUITING NOTES

Indiana was early to the offer but he's in Purdue's back yard. Butler become his third offer in June and Bulldogs could be an attractive, compromise type choice in the end. Michigan showing interest but thus far looks like a battle between the bigger in-state programs.

http://www.scout.com/player/207936-eric-hunter?s=75

AAU Team: Team Harris (adidas)

AAU Spring Stats: N/A

Ranking History: Trending up (NR, 86)

Key Dates: May 14, 2016 - during a Xavier visit Hunter reports that the Musketeers have extended a scholarship offer.

@ebuckets13

EVALUATION (Peegs)

The swift lefty has a wicked crossover which helps him get easily to the basket. Nice pull-up jumper but form from long-range needs work. Has a chance to develop into a point guard but scoring oriented. Had 50 plus in one game this year. Keep in mind he plays for a smaller school with not a lot of higher level competition. Very skinny, especially in the legs. Once he fills out he may garner a Big Ten offer or two.

RECRUITING NOTES

Purdue and Butler offered in late July to join Xavier, Toledo, IPFW and Ball State. Indiana, Iowa and West Virginia among those who picked up interest after his big July.

http://www.scout.com/player/200298-keldon-johnson?s=75

AAU Team: Boo Williams (Nike)

AAU Spring Stats: 16.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.1 topg, 49.4 FG%, 28.6 3FG%, 67.5 FT%

Ranking History: Trending even (36, 37)

Key Dates: July 14, 2016 - Tom Crean makes trip to smaller event in Las Vegas to catch Johnson first hand during second July evaluation period.

EVALUATION (Scout.com)

Johnson wields a high-arching jump shot that finds the net from 21 feet, and he's even more accurate a step or two inside the line. Although not an explosive finisher (at least not yet), he's reasonably quick already and handles well enough to shake loose for mid-range jumpers. He's also highly adept scoring on the move, utilizing an advanced set of floaters and runners to thwart would-be shotblockers.

RECRUITING NOTES

Georgetown was the first school to call him on June 15 and nearby state school are obviously involved along with North Carolina, Indiana and a lot of ACC schools at this point. Both the Heels and Hoosiers have a long history with his Boo Williams EYBL program. Late summer offers came in from Louisville and Xavier.

http://www.scout.com/player/203261-sid-wilson?s=75

AAU Team: New Heights (Under Armour)

AAU Spring Stats: 16.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.7 topg, 55.2 FG%, 29.4 3FG%, 71.6 FT%

Ranking History: Trending way up (NR, 48)

Key Dates: July 1st was when news broke that Wilson was reclassifying to the Class of 2018

@Iam_SidWilson

EVALUATION (Peegs)

Wilson has had some big games in July, especially at the UA All-American Camp. He can put the ball on the floor well and has a pretty smooth mid-range shot. Doesn't quite connect consistently yet out beyond the 3-point line. Will drive the lane and slam in traffic, so he's a very explosive player as well.

RECRUITING NOTES

Indiana already talking late summer visit possibility with Wilson. Late summer offers have come in from Louisville, Texas, USC, UNLV. Seton Hall and St. John's making him a priority.Maryland, Oklahoma State, Rhode Island and Temple were other schools he mentioned to us in July.

http://www.scout.com/player/202789-louis-king?s=75

AAU Team: Sports U (Under Armour)

AAU Spring Stats: 8.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.8 topg, 36.1 FG%, 52.9 3FG%, 75.0 FT%

Ranking History: Trending up (27, 18)

Key Dates: July 18, 2016: - Indiana offers King

EVALUATION (Peegs)

A good shooter with size and could probably play anywhere from the two through the four spots. But ideally a sweet shooting small forward or two guard. Has nice length so should be tough filling in the wings on the break. Had some understated numbers on UAA circuit but was on one of the most talented 16U teams in the nation with Luther Muhammad and Jahvon Quinerly, both top 50 types in that class.

RECRUITING NOTES

Nearby programs like Syracuse, Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. John's offered early. Kansas, Louisville, Iowa, SMU among the later offers along with the Hoosiers.

http://www.scout.com/player/203725-nate-roberts?s=75

AAU Team: Baltimore United (Under Armour)

AAU Spring Stats: 7.8 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.4 topg, 41.4 FG%, 53.7 FT%

Ranking History: Trending even (NR, NR)

Key Dates: July 19, 2016: He tweets out Indiana offer

@nateupnext

EVALUATION (Scout.com)

A 6-foot-7, pushing 6-8 forward, Roberts is a forward prospect that plays facing the basket. He moves fluidly and runs the floor with ease. Roberts is also a good athlete. Offensively, Roberts has a good set of hands and nice touch around the goal. He likes to catch the ball in the mid-post and is capable of making off the catch mid-range jump shots or driving the ball. At this stage, he doesn't look to post often and in Scout's viewing didn't showcase any post moves. Roberts, a 2018 prospect, certainly has upside because of his physical features and potential as an offensive player.

RECRUITING NOTES

The Indiana offer adds to other July offers from Dayton, St. Joseph's, Kansas State and Clemson. Cincinnati was his first big offer last year. A bit under the radar as his classmate at John Carroll is five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley. Syracuse getting more involved. Maryland has hosted him in the past.

http://www.scout.com/player/202880-tyler-herro?s=75

AAU Team: Wisconsin Playground Warriors (adidas Gauntlet)

AAU Spring Stats: N/A

Ranking History: Trending fairly even (38, 42)

Key Dates: June 24, 2016 - attends camp at Wisconsin

@raf_tyler

EVALUATION (Peegs)

Herro has a lot of tools at his disposal. Great height for two guard, can shoot it off pass or his dribble, can handle and get up. Needs to learn to play harder and be more careful with his shot selection but lots of long term potential.

RECRUITING NOTES

Marquette and Wisconsin have already made him a priority and hosted him again in June. Indiana, DePaul, Florida, Iowa State, Nebraska, Purdue, UNLV and Xavier are all schools that offered months ago. Arizona jumped into the mix with a late July offer.

http://www.scout.com/player/210717-cormac-ryan?s=75

AAU Team: Middlesex Magic

AAU Spring Stats: N/A

Ranking History: Trending even (NR, NR)

Key Dates: August 6, 2016 - attends camp at Michigan

EVALUATION (Peegs)

Ryan is a bit like a Grayson Allen, big point guard prospect. Just probably a bit more challenged on the defensive end. Plays for a lower profile AAU team.

RECRUITING NOTES

Michigan followed him very closely in April and July but did take them till August 7th to finally offer. Indiana pulled the trigger before than as Tom Crean liked what he saw from Ryan in final July evaluation period and offered before the month was over.. Besides Michigan the schools involved before July include Boston College, Virginia and Northwestern. Florida and Stanford offered in late July.

http://www.scout.com/player/203267-david-singleton

AAU Team: Belmont Shore

AAU Spring Stats: NA

Ranking History: Trending even (63, 63)

Key Dates: August 14, 2016 - finishes back to back unofficial visits to Arizona and Arizona State

@davidsingleton0

EVALUATION (Peegs)

A combo guard known for his outside shot with is a low but very quick, efficient release. Hos above average strength for his age.

RECRUITING NOTES

Singleton is a major Pac-12 target and more than half of the league has offered or had him in for a visit already. Gonzaga, Georgetown and Indiana are the other notables involved at this early stage. Zags offered in early August.

http://www.scout.com/player/195163-eric-ayala?s=75

AAU Team: WeR1 (Under Armour)

AAU Spring Stats: 11.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.2 topg, 45.8 FG%, 35.4 3FG%, 61.4 FT%

Ranking History: Trending up (NR, 75)

Key Dates: July, 2015 - Playing for Puerto Rico, Ayala leads the entire FIBA Americas tourney in scoring.

@EA_Glo

EVALUATION (Scout.com)

Ayala is a multi-talented guard capable of playing either point or two guard. A little more of a scoring mentality right now than as a distributor but has the handle to make the transition to a big point. Needs to watch the turnovers but made big strides  in his game this July.

RECRUITING NOTES

Long list of schools right now including Kansas, Indiana, UConn, California, Maryland, Cincinnati, Providence, Miami, Seton Hall, Ohio State and Villanova. Maryland offered him after the July evaluation period.

http://www.scout.com/player/196996-kevin-easley?s=75

AAU Team: Indiana Elite G3 Rising Stars (adidas Gauntlet)

AAU Spring Stats: N/A

Ranking History: Trending even (NR, NR)

Key Dates: February 8, 2015 - Easley picks up an Indiana offer with about a month left in his freshman season at Lawrence North.

@kevineasley__34

EVALUATION (Scout.com)

Easley is still in process of changing from a power to a small forward but possesses the shot form to help make it happen. Good but not great athlete. His key is improving his handle so he can attack the basket better from the wing.

RECRUITING NOTES

Indiana, Purdue and Xavier are his early offers. Illinois, Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan State and DePaul have been watching him this month. He may not be the darling of the 2018 class in Indiana but Big Ten teams are still showing consistent interest.

http://www.scout.com/player/198712-tim-finke?s=75

AAU Team: St. Louis Eagles (Nike)

AAU Spring Stats: 8.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.2 apg, 0.9 topg, 35.5 FG%, 28.8 3FG%, 52.4 FT%

Ranking History: Trending down (51, 96)

Key Dates: October 20, 2015 - IU make a trip to see Finke work out in Champaign, the second such trip in about a month's time.

@Timfinke_

EVALUATION (Illini Inquirer)

Finke is a versatile guard with a vast amount of skill and athleticism. He can score in a variety of ways with a smooth stroke and athletic finishes at the rim off the bounce. Finke hit 65 threes during his sophomore season. He has also shown good handles, and an ability to drive from the perimeter and rise above defenders with his bounce. Finke has a superb basketball IQ as well, and his court vision allows him to make great decisions with the ball in his hands.

Finke's frame has developed nicely to this point. He has reached 6-foot-6, and he could grow taller than that. He has also added strength since the end of his freshman year, and that continues to be a big focus for him going forward. Finke's overall skill set is very intriguing, and he is deceptively explosive. Once his frame fills out, his upside has the chance to be sky-high.

RECRUITING NOTES

Older brother Michael stayed home to play for the Illini, so Illinois is a favorite. Took recent trip to Notre Dame. Indiana as mentioned above scouted him twice in short succession last fall. Offer list includes Creighton, DePaul, Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Saint Louis and UIC. Did not have a great July and ranking suffered accordingly.

Other 2018 guys on the radar are broken out below with a group with offers (or five-stars) and then another list of players that have been listed with Indiana but news has been limited or player may have more to prove.
