July Live Period Recap: The New Names

We look back at the July live period that just ended by recapping the new prospects that emerged for Indiana in both the rising junior and senior classes.

So what did we learn from the three open recruiting periods in July that ended yesterday?

How about a healthy list of new Hoosier prospects that have emerged from the rising senior (2017) and junior (2018) classes.

With so many names on the Indiana target list this story is devoted to just identifying some of the new names that cropped up. Keep in mind that many of the players have likely been on the Hoosier staff radar for much longer than this month.

Class of 2017

Quick Note: Plays for Expressions Elite, the same team that features IU targets Tremont Waters and Nick Richards. Samuels excelled at the Peach Jam in front of the Indiana staff and the Hoosiers offered before the event was over.

Quick Note: Scorer supreme. Brown may be much better than his ranking as he consistently fills up the stat sheet using his great combination of strength and skills.

Quick Note: Barcello showed he can both score and pass the ball against the highest level of competition. Can he defend top players? Quick release jumper is lethal.

http://www.scout.com/player/204538-jaylen-butz?s=75

Quick Note: Butz has been the top guy on the board for mid-majors since the spring and finally getting well deserved high major interest. Has the body and good explosion off the floor but needs a higher motor and more consistent play.

Quick Note: Dominated at times at the UA Finals against Top 50 type talent. Has huge shoulders, a good handle and terrific jumper.

Quick Note: A big that was headed to Arizona State until a staff connection there changed and now he’s back on the market. Indiana watched him this month including a couple times in Georgia at the UA Finals.

Class of 2018

http://www.scout.com/player/203725-nate-roberts?s=75

Quick Note: DC area forward who shined enough in July to earn an Indiana scholarship offer. Told us he’s now pushing 6-foot-10 but listed mostly by services right now at 6-foot-8.

Quick Note: A big man who keeps getting taller and better. Showed he has come a long way this month. New Heights teammate of IU targets Sid Wilson and Isaiah Washington.

Quick Note: Under the radar for recruiting sites but not for college coaches from Indiana, Notre Dame, Michigan and others. Was outstanding in Orlando at Super Showcase. Ultra skilled.

Quick Note: Now this DC area player did come out of nowhere for many but at least one report that Indiana has offered this strong wing known for his lethal mid-range pull-up.

Quick Note: Well known four-star in this class who confirmed Indiana interest this July at the Under Armour All-American Camp.
