Indiana would like to add one more offensive line commit in the 2017 class and Carmel (IN) Carmel H.S. prospect Mark Stickford could end up being the guy. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound offensive tackle recently visited Indiana and he told Peegs.com that an offer from the Hoosiers would be big for him
When Stickford was in Bloomington he was able to watch the team practice and get a feel for what it is like to be an IU offensive lineman under assistant coach Greg Frey.
“My visit to IU was awesome,” Strickford said. “I got to see practice, which allowed me to have another experience of watching Coach Frey work with his guys. I was impressed by the facilities and the coaching staff stood, as well as the overall atmosphere.”
When it comes to a possible offer from Indiana the coaches have let Stickford know that they would just like to see him play a few times before extending him a scholarship offer.
“The message from IU is to just keep working hard,” he said. “They said that they are just taking recruiting slow and want to see me play before they offer.”
The talented prospect currently has offers from Purdue, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Miami (OH), New Mexico, Ohio, Toledo, UCF, Harvard and Yale. He said that he is mainly focused on the power five schools that are recruiting him.
“I've had a lot of opportunities to look at some great schools during the process,” Stickford said. “I've narrowed it down for the most part to not looking at any Ivy League schools or any MAC schools.”
Stickford said that while it is nice that his teammate Britt Beery is currently committed to IU, it is not going to have a big impact on his final decision.
“Britt and I haven't talked at all about playing together,” he said. “The fact that he is already going there isn't really affecting any kind of decision, but I guess it would be a bonus.”
Stickford said that even though he already has some big offers an offer from Indiana would be big for him because of what the Hoosiers can offer him on and off the field.
“An offer from IU would be huge for me,” he said. “Despite having some other big offers IU has great football and great schooling, which is important to me. I really like Coach Frey and the IU program. They certainly have something special going on down there.”
The big offensive lineman would like to get his decision over with as soon as possible, but he said that if he feels he needs to wait to make the right decision that is what he will do.
“I would like to make a decision sooner rather than later,” Stickford said. “But it isn't a huge deal to me if I have to wait to make the best decision for me.”
