Indiana’s New York City presence will continue to grow.
The Hoosiers have a contract to play North Carolina in the 2018 Jimmy V Classic, the Indianapolis Star reported today.
The Jimmy V Classic is an annual event in Madison Square Garden.
IU played in the 2014 Jimmy V Classic, falling to Louisville 94-74 on Dec. 9.
Indiana plays in Madison Square Garden in two events during the 2017-18 season, first in the 2K Sports Classic during the non-conference schedule then in March for the Big Ten Tournament.
IU has a large alumni base in the New York area and the Hoosiers have been recruiting the area, assistant coach Chuck Martin’s home turf, hard the past few years.
IU sophomore center Thomas Bryant and freshman guard Devonte Green are both from New York.
Obviously, the history between Indiana and North Carolina is highlighted by IU’s 63-50 win in the 1981 national title game in Philadelphia.
IU leads the all-time series 8-6 after the Tar Heels beat the Hoosiers 101-86 in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
