This past Sunday the Indiana football program hosted a Junior Day that was attended by several top prospects from the Midwest. One player who made the trip to Bloomington was 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive lineman Gavin McCabe from Chicago (IL) Marist H.S.
The talented prospect said he had a great time on his Junior Day visit, and he was impressed with IU has to offer.
“The Junior Day was awesome,” McCabe said. “The campus and school were beautiful and the new facilities they are putting together are going to be one of the best.”
McCabe got to spend a god deal of time with the coaching staff and he believes they will take the program to a new level.
“The coaches were great,” he said. “I really like what they have going on down in Bloomington. They are really turning that program around, and I believe they are going to turn that team into a power house in the Big 10.”
The Indiana coaches expressed to McCabe how important it is for the program to bring in quality prospects every year on the defensive line.
“The message from the coaches to me was how important the D-Line was to them,” McCabe said. “They really stressed the importance of defense, and how they were trying to make the Indiana defense the best in the country.”
While he was on his visit the three-star recruit picked up an offer from the Hoosiers, which was his first offer from a Big Ten school.
“To receive an offer from a Big 10 school like Indiana was absolutely amazing,” he said. “Growing up in the Midwest Big 10 football was huge and something I have always dreamt of, and to now have the opportunity to play in that conference is a dream come true.”
McCabe said that after the visit to Indiana the Hoosiers are in great shape with him because he knows it is a place where he could be successful.
“My relationship with Indiana is very strong after this visit,” he said. “I met the majority of the coaching staff and was able to see the school and campus. I now know that Indiana is a school that I can see myself going too and playing at someday.”
