Indiana basketball recruiting notes

Notes on how Indiana recruiting prospects played on Friday night and some recruiting notes.

Indiana 2017 signee Justin Smith had 28 points and eight rebounds but Lincolnshire Stevenson fell to Waukegan 82-71 in a Class 4A regional final.

Stevenson ends the season 22-6 and won the North Suburban Conference title.

2017 guard Mark Smith, who visited Indiana recently, had 14 points to help Edwardsville beat Alton 66-53 in the Granite City Regional. (Regional is the first round of the Illinois playoffs).

Edwardsville is 28-1 and on course to face powerhouse Chicago Simeon, which includes three of the top eight 2018 players in Illinois, in a super-sectional, if both schools advance that far. Five-star defensive end A.J. Epensa, an Iowa football signee, had 24 points to lead Edwardsville on Friday night.

2018 guard Robert Phinisee had 26 points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals to lead McCutcheon to a 78-56 win in a 4A sectional semifinal.

2018 guard Romeo Langford had 33 points to lead New Albany to an 89-52 win over Bedford North Lawrence in a 4A sectional semifinal. 2020 guard Brayton Bailey, son of former IU star Damon Bailey, had 13 points for BNL.

New Albany beat McCutcheon in last year’s 4A state title game.

2018 guard Eric Hunter had 31 points for Indianapolis Tindley in an 80-58 win over Indiana Math and Science in a Class 1A semifinal. Xavier assistant Travis Steele watched Hunter while Eastern Illinois watched 2018 guard Hunter White and 2018 guard K.J. Coleman, per Tindley coach Bob Wonnell.

2017 Hamilton Southeastern forward Zach Gunn, who visited Indiana recently, was held out on Friday night with what was was described as a minor foot issue.

HSE won 68-47 over Anderson, and Gunn is expected to play in Saturday’s sectional final.

Gunn had 23 points and nine rebounds in HSE’s 72-66 win over Fishers in a sectional opener earlier in the week.
