HAMPTON, Va. — The Nike EYBL 2017 session opened Friday night, and Indiana watched a number of players.

Peegs.com also was on hand for the annual event at the Boo Williams Sports Complex.

Assistant Tom Ostrom was recruiting the event for the Hoosiers.

Ostrom started the evening by watching five-star 2019 forward Trendon Watford, the younger brother of former IU forward Christian Watford.

Trendon is playing a year up on the 17U Nike EYBL level, the same as he did last year.

Versatile with an ability to shoot from 3-point range very well, Watford can score and rebound and is a good passer for a forward.

He had had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists as his Nike Team Florida rallied for a 79-71 win in a big-time matchup with E1T1, also from Florida. Team Florida trailed 44-32 at halftime. Watford shot 4-for-7 from 2-point range and 2-for-4 from the arc.

Watford plays on a strong team that includes Vernon Carey, 7-foot-1 Balsa Koprivica and others.

In the second round of games, Ostrom watched five-star 2018 point guard Darius Garland, 6-foot-11 center James Wiseman and 6-foot-9 power forward Francis Okoro of Bradley Beal Elite.

Garland had 14 points and five assists and showed his speed, quickness and tremendous vision and passing.

Although still on the slender side, Wiseman has added weight and was a major factor inside, finishing with 14 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots as Beal won 66-44.

Wiseman ran the floor very well for his size and was playing above rim on both ends.

Okoro, who has only been playing basketball for a few years, is strong, physical and can get off the floor. He had eight points and eight rebounds.

In the final of the three sessions, Ostrom watched five-star 2019 forward Keion Brooks from Fort Wayne. Brooks received a scholarship offer from IU coach Archie Miller this week.

A tremendous athlete at 6-foot-8, Brooks scored a team-high 23 points. He shot 5-for-15 from 2-point range, 1-for-2 from the arc and went 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

The Indy Heat beat the Oakland Soldiers 76-60.

The Indy Heat also includes 2019 point guard Tyger Campbell and 6-foot-8 2018 forward Brandon Johns, a nice shooter for size and strength.

Johns shot 3-for-5 from the arc, scored 13 points and had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Ostrom also at times positioned himself so he could keep track of multiple games at the same time.

IU assistant Bruiser Flint was at the Under Armour event in New York on Friday.

Players with IU interest on the Under Armour circuit include four-star 6-foot-8 forward Nate Roberts and 6-foot-6 three-star forward Kevin Easley Jr., both in the 2018 class.
