HAMPTON, Va. — After a pair of impressive performances in front of Indiana coaches here at the Nike EYBL opening session this weekend, a 2018 forward landed an IU scholarship offer.
Cole Swider, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward from the Boston Area Basketball Club (BABC) and the St. Andrews School in Portsmouth, R.I., was offered by IU tonight.
Swider has offers from Indiana, Boston College, Creighton, DePaul, Miami, Providence, Rhode Island, Syracuse, Villanova and Xavier, among others.
Swider was one of the standout players overall from the Nike event here this weekend.
On Saturday in front of IU assistant coach Tom Ostrom, Swider had a monster game, scoring 37 points and shooting 7-for-9 from the arc. He also had seven rebounds.
In front of IU coach Archie Miller today, Swider shot 9-for-15 overall, including 2-for-5 from the arc, on the way to 22 points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Watching Swider in person, a number of aspects stand out about his game.
His shoot form is outstanding and he showed the ability to make 3s both off the catch and off the dribble.
Swider also showed good touch and footwork inside and was very solid and aggressive on the boards.
He’s not a high flyer but he’s a solid athlete who showed very good skills, attitude, basketball IQ and aggressiveness on the court.
Swider ended the weekend sixth in scoring in EYBL play, averaging 21.8 points per game.
He shot 61 percent (22-for-36) from the field overall and 75 percent (12-for-16) from the arc in four games.
Swider also averaged 7.8 rebounds per game, with 13 of his 31 rebounds coming on the offensive end.
He scored 87 points in four games, 36 of those points coming on 3-pointers and 36 points coming in the paint.
