Taye Barber from Cypress (TX) Cypress Springs H.S. will have plenty of options when it comes time for him to pick where he will play his college football. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound WR/DB has around 20 offers, and he could be close to picking up a few more. Peegs.com spoke with Barber about his interest in Indiana, and about where things stand with his recruiting at this time.
The three-star recruit said that IU is standing out for him because of the conference they play in.
“I have a lot of interest in Indiana,” he said. “They’re in the Big Ten, which has great competition.”
Barber is listed as a wide receiver by Scout.com, but he said that Indiana staff likes him on the defensive side of the ball.
“They are recruiting me to play defense,” he said. “I have been talking to Coach (Noah) Joseph, and he said that I have great ball-hawk skills and I can catch everything and make plays. He also said that I would have a chance to play early if I went there.”
When it comes to his recruiting, the talented prospect said he is looking for a school where it feels like a second family for him.
“I am looking for a program with a great family atmosphere,” Barber said. “I want a school that I can call home.”
Barber currently has offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Arizona, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, TCU, Utah, Fresno State, Houston, New Mexico, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa and Yale. He said that right now he does not have a list of favorites, but there are some schools standing out to him and IU is one of them.
“I am still looking at everybody,” he said. “Indiana sits up there with my top schools. I just want to check them out and see how everything is there.”
Barber, who hopes to get up to Bloomington this summer for an unofficial visit, said that he wants to have his decision over with before the start of his senior season.
“I plan on making my decision sometime this summer.,” the Texas native said about his timetable for committing.
