After two consistent weeks with the D1 Minnesota AAU program, class of 2018 power forward Race Thompson landed an Indiana scholarship offer.
A 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward, Thompson is currently ranked No. 67 by Scout.com in the 2018 class.
Thompson plays high school basketball for Robbinsdale Armstrong and is from Plymouth, Minn. IU assistant coach Tom Ostrom is a Minnesota grad and had considerable ties in Minnesota.
Thompson tells Peegs.com he received his scholarship offer from IU tonight in a phone conversation with Miller.
“He liked that I can be versatile on the court and be able to handle the ball as big as I am,” Thompson told Peegs.com.
“He said I can fit into the offense really well and be able to play my game at Indiana and not really have to change my game.
“I know a little bit about Indiana. I know it’s a nice school. I know I’d be able to play right away if I work at it. I think it’d be a good opportunity for me.”
Here is what Peegs.com publisher Mike Pegram wrote after seeing Thompson live this spring: “Thompson was Mr. Consistency, scoring in double figures all but one time in eight games this month. He might be a short power forward but his big upper body and length lessen that issue considerably. Surprised with his passing and his shot shows potential, so he could become a small forward in time.”

Thompson has a mix of schools recruiting him at this point.
“I would say the schools showing the most attention are Minnesota, Nebraska, Marquette, Baylor, Iowa State and Indiana,” Thompson said.
He added he has been on campus at each of those schools except Indiana. Thompson and Miller talked tonight about a visit to IU but nothing has been scheduled just yet.
“I won’t cut my list until the end of July,” Thompson said. “I want to make my decision sometime during the college football season, at least before my senior basketball season.”
