Hoosiers after D.C. linebacker

Three-star LB Ishmael Robinson talks about his interest in IU after landing an offer from the Hoosiers.

The Indiana staff is looking for athletic outside linebackers in the 2018 class and one prospect that has emerged at that spot is Ishmael Robinson. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound standout from Woodson H.S. in Washington, D.C. spoke to Peegs.com about what it meant to land his first Big Ten offer from IU.

The three-star prospect currently has offers from Indiana, Syracuse, Southern Miss, East Carolina, Army and Robert Morris. He said the Hoosiers like the physical skills he brings to the LB position.

“They are recruiting me to play outside linebacker,” Robinson said. “They like my length, my speed and how hard I play on the field, my motor. It meant a lot to get that offer. I wasn’t really expecting it and I was surprised to get the offer from Indiana.”

Robinson is still learning about IU, and he plans on finding out more about them when he visits Bloomington this summer.

“I don’t know very much about Indiana, but I can’t wait to visit,” he said. “I am not exactly sure when I will visit, but it should be sometime in either June or July. When I’m there I want to meet the coaches and see the facilities. I also want to get a feel for the academics and the players on the team that I would be playing with. I am also interested in learning more about what kind of defensive scheme they run.”

This past fall the athletic linebacker was a key player for a Woodson team that went 11-2 and made it to the state playoffs.

“We did pretty well,” Robinson said about his junior year. “We won the Turkey Bowl Championship against Wilson H.S., but we lost in the state playoffs. Defensively we did really well. We weren’t scored on much this year. Individually I feel I played well but you can always be better. I had 17 sacks but my goal was to get at least 20. I thought I got better at rushing the passer, and also with my movement going sideline to sideline.”

When it comes to his recruiting the D.C. native believes he will be ready to pick a college after he makes some visits this summer.

“I haven’t narrowed it down yet,” Robinson said about his recruiting. “I want to make some visits and meet the coaches at the schools that are recruiting me. I am not really sure when I will make my commitment, but I think after I make some visits I’ll be ready to make my decision. I plan on visiting Indiana, Tennessee, Ohio State, Temple, Kentucky, Michigan and Robert Morris.”
