Hoosiers offer Alabama D-lineman

Indiana has extended an offer to three-star defensive lineman Allen Love.

Indiana joined the recruiting race for defensive tackle Allen Love when they extended an offer to the three-star recruit yesterday. Peegs.com spoke with the 6-foot-2, 282-pound standout from Birmingham (AL) Huffman H.S. about his recruiting and his thoughts on the offer from IU.

Love said that he had only been hearing from the Hoosiers for a few weeks before picking up an offer from them.

“I’ve been talking to Coach (Mark) Hagen for about two weeks," Love said. “He has told me that they want big, physical defensive linemen that can move and help them win games. He said that he really liked my film and they offered me.”

Even though he has just started to build a relationship with Coach Hagen, the talented prospect sees the IU assistant as someone he would enjoying playing for.

“He is a real down-to-earth coach and he is going to be real with you,” Love said about Coach Hagen. “What he tells you he is going to stick by it. I just look forward to building a relationship with him.”

Love said that when he looks at the Indiana program he sees one that is on its way up, and one that is just a few players from really turning the corner.

“I know they are in the Big Ten and that stands out for me,” he said when asked what he knows about IU. “I know they are trying to build the program up and they need some playmakers. I think they are going about it the right way to find those playmakers to help their program. I think Indiana will be a great team, and I am looking to learn more about them when I get up there this June for a visit.”

The Alabama native plans on taking a trip to Bloomington next month, and when he’s there he will be looking for a place where he can grow on and off the field.

“I will be looking for that home feeling,” Love said when asked what he will be looking for when he visits Indiana. “I am also looking for great coaches that will help me become a man, as well as a great team that will teach me things to get ready for life. Another thing is a place where I can go and have fun and enjoy my college career.”

Love and his Huffman H.S. teammates just finished up spring ball, and he feels good about the improvements he made this spring.

“We just wrapped up our spring football,” he said. “I worked on my keeping my motor really high and I think I was able to do that. I also worked on my using my hands better and on having a more explosive first step.”

Recruiting is going very well for Love as he has picked up around 30 offers from Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers, Louisville, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, N.C. State, Arkansas State, Army, Bowling Green, Central Florida, Colorado State, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Toledo, Troy, Tulane, UAB, Western Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Samford and Tennessee Tech. He plans on making his decision in less than a couple months.

“I will make my decision on July 22nd,” Love said about his decision timetable. “That’s my birthday and that is my set commitment date.”
