Offensive tackles are priority targets in the 2018 recruiting class for IU, and one prospect at that position the Hoosiers are after is Hamilton Hall. Peegs.com spoke with the 6-foot-6, 320-pound standout from Chamblee (GA) Chamblee H.S. about his recruiting and his interest in the Indiana program.
Hall picked up an offer from the Hoosiers earlier this month after the coach that recruits his area stopped by his school.
“I have been talking to Coach (Mike) Hart, the running backs coach,” Hall said about his communication with IU. “He is the one that came by the school and told me I had an offer. I have been keeping in touch with him and he seems like a pretty good guy. I’m excited to meet more of the staff.”
The Hoosiers have expressed to Hall how much they like the way he moves for someone with his size.
“They like my mobility and how well I can move,” he said about the message from IU. “They said that they were really impressed with my film, and that I have everything they are looking for in a tackle.”
The big offensive lineman wants to make a trip up to Bloomington to visit Indiana, but he isn’t sure if it will be an unofficial or official visit.
“I would like to take an official visit because it is kind of far, but I definitely want to visit the schools that have offered me,” Hall said. “I want to see the campus and get a feel for the environment.”
The 2016 season was a disappointing one for Hall and his teammates as Chamblee H.S. only won two games with a new head coach.
“Last season we ended up going 2-8, so we didn’t do as well as we felt we should’ve,” he said about his junior year. “I don’t think we clicked like we needed to after getting a new head coach. I have confidence that this upcoming season will be a more successful one. Individually I felt like I played pretty well. There are always things you can get better at, but I thought I set a bar for myself and I should be able to continue to raise that bar as I go through my final season of high school football.”
Hall currently has offers from Indiana, Maryland, Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Toledo, Georgia State, Chattanooga, Mercer and The Citadel. He said that at this time he is still open when it comes to his recruiting.
“I am pretty much looking at everybody,” he said about his recruitment. “I haven’t eliminated any schools, but I have started to focus on certain schools. But for the most part I am keeping my options to all the schools that have offered me.”
The Georgia native said that there are a few different factors he will focus on when it comes to make his decision.
“Of course, the athletics part of it will be pretty important, but I will also look at the academics and the atmosphere of the school and the people who go there,” he said. “The way the coaches interact with the players and the team chemistry will also be big.”
Hall is not sure when he will make a decision because he wants to be completely sure before he commits to a school.
“I’m not sure when I will decide,” he said. “I have had people tell me that it would be good to have it over with before my senior season, but at the end of the day I just want to make sure I find the right fit for me. I don’t plan on committing and then decommitting, so when I commit I want to make sure it is a school I am 100 percent positive I want to go to. So I will keep that in mind and talk it over with my parents and make sure I don’t make any moves too quickly. It is a big decision that will impact the next four years of my life so I want to make sure I take everything into consideration.”
