Later this month running back Ronnie Walker will be in Bloomington for an unofficial visit with the Hoosiers. Peegs.com spoke with the standout from Hopewell (VA) Hopewell H.S. about his upcoming trip to Indiana, as well as where things stand with his recruiting at this time.
Walker will be making his way through this part of the country around the middle of June, and that is when he plans on visiting IU.
“I will be doing a Midwest trip around June 10th to June 14th and I will visit Indiana at that time,” the Virginia native said.
Walker said he is excited about his trip to Indiana because it will be his first time visiting the Hoosier State.
“The visit to Indiana will be great because it will be my first time to ever visit there,” he said. “I am looking forward to meeting the players and coaches. I also want to go around the campus and see the academic part. I want to ask a lot of questions about the education and what kind of degree can I get when I graduate.”
The four-star recruit has been communicating with head coach Tom Allen and running backs coach Mike Hart.
“I have been talking to Coach Hart quite a bit,” Walker said. “He has told me that Indiana is a great school, and that I would have the opportunity to play as a true freshman. He also talked to me about the education they can offer to me. Coach Hart is a great coach and person. I know that if I do go to Indiana he would build me up to bring a great running back. I have also spoken to Coach Allen and he is a great coach too. He has talked about how I could be a big part of the foundation they are building there with the program. He has also talked about how I am the type of running back that they can get the ball to in different ways. I really like him a lot.”
This off-season the talented prospect has been working on a few different things before he plays his final season of high school football.
“I have been working a lot on my footwork,” Walker said. “I have also been working on my route-running and on my pass catching. I want to get be better this year at catching the ball out of the backfield.”
Walker currently has offers from Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Marshall and Navy. He said that his plan is too commit by the end of the summer after he publicly announces his list of top schools.
“I have narrowed it down but I’m not saying anything until the dead period on June 26th,” he said. “I will narrow it down to nine schools. I plan on deciding before my senior season because I want to sign in December and be an early enrollee.”
