Recruting News: Bruce Hampton

As the High School Football season begins to run down, the unsigned members of the 2005 senior class are beginning to discover where they want to go for college. HoosierInsider had a chance to catch up with one such young man in Bruce Hampton from Cleveland Heights High School (University Heights, OH). Bruce told us about his high school team, pregame rituals, and his thoughts on his college selection.

His high school team is having a decent season, "We're doing ok, we're 4-4 on the year, and still have a good chance at making the playoffs with two games left," Hampton said. It is a drastic improvement over the one win campaign from last year. Hampton has been playing cornerback and wide receiver so far this year, but colleges are looking at him for his ability on defense. He said that he had a couple of interceptions early in the season, as well as several batted balls, but after the first few games, teams stopped throwing his way. Hampton said that he has only had three or four balls caught on him all year. He spoke highly of his fellow defensive backs, saying that they have essentially stopped the passing game while on defense. He said he also has a couple of touchdowns as a wideout on the year. Hampton is kind of a quiet kid in his opinion. He said that he doesn't like to run around and get hyped up before a game, but just prefers to relax and focus on the task at hand. This focused attitude has helped him in the classroom also, as he is posting a 3.9 GPA and scored a 23 on his first try at the ACT. He says he will take it again in the future. When not in the classroom or on the field, Hampton likes to listen to Jay Z and Young Buck. He is a kid who takes pride in what he does, and is doing well for himself. He currently has offers from Indiana, Bowling Green, Ball State, and Stanford. Says Hampton, "I don't have any favorites just yet, I'm going to send my tape out to some other schools and then go from there." Hampton has an official visit planned to Indiana on December 3rd. He said that he will set up other visits after he sends out his tape and get any other offers. Stanford has shown heavy interest and Bruce said that he plans on visiting there. It should be a fun time for Hampton over the next few months while teams court him to win his services. Top Stories
