Bloomington (Ind.) South quarterback ties a record held by former Florida QB and current Chicago Bear Rex Grossman, while Matt Mayberry has another big game on the ground. Also read about Mike Stark and his No. 2 Platteville squad in their matchup with No. 1 Lancaster.

Ben Chappell, QB Bloomington (Ind.) High School South – Chappell added his name to the Bloomington South record books by tying a school mark with six touchdown passes in a 42-16 victory over Pike. Chappell tied the mark that is also held by Rex Grossman (1998) and Dobby Grossman (1970). The IU-bound Chappell completed 22-of-30 passes for 276 yards and had four of his scoring strikes in the second quarter alone. The win improved the Panthers to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in conference, while Pike slipped to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Jeff Sanders, TE Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart Griffin H.S. – Sanders' SHG squad (6-0) appears poised to become the No. 1 ranked team in the state this week after its 23-8 win Friday night over Chatham Glenwood. That win, coupled with No. 1 Geneseo's loss, means SHG will likely take over the No. 1 spot in the state's Class 5A rankings. The win was Sacred Heart Griffin's 34th straight regular season win and it also extended the team's unbeaten streak to 26 games in conference play. Sanders had three catches for 31 yards in the win.

Matt Mayberry, OLB/FBHinsdale (Ill.) South H.S. – Matt Mayberry had another huge offensive game with 174 yards on 30 carries, but Hinsdale South needed to go to the game's final minute before knocking off Willowbrook, 35-28. Hinsdale South quarterback Kirk Radecki scored on a one-yard run with 50 seconds left to give Hinsdale South (5-1/3-0 conference) the win, while Willowbrook slipped to 1-5.

Alex Perry, OT – Morris (Ill.) – Second-ranked Morris (6-0) continues to roll, as it handed Minooka a 42-7 setback Friday night. Once again it was tailback John Dergo doing to majority of the damage behind an offensive line anchored by the IU-bound Perry. Dergo accounted for four of Morris' six touchdowns and now has 26 scores on the season. Dergo finished with 172 yards on 13 carries.

Mike Stark, OL – Platteville (Wis.). In a matchup of Division IV heavyweights, Stark's No. 2 Platteville (5-1) squad was knocked out by No. 1 Lancaster (6-0), 42-7. Lancaster running back/receiver Adam Hampton led the Lancaster charge by running for a pair of touchdowns, throwing another, and catching one more. Hampton only touched the ball eight times in the game, yet had a hand in four of Lancaster's six touchdowns.

Pete Saxon, IL – Plain City (Ohio) Jonathan Alder H.S. (5-1) won in convincing fashion, handing Cols. Hartley a 63-32 loss Friday night. Alder is currently ranked 10th in Division IV Region 16.

Brad Martin, TE – Marion (Ohio) Pleasant H.S. (4-2) won its third straight, handing Richwood North Union a 31-14 setback Friday night. No stats were available. Pleasant is ranked eighth in Division V, Region 20, with a couple games remaining on its schedule. The top four teams in the region rankings will qualify for the state playoffs.

Jarrod Smith, OL – Fairborn (Ohio). Fairborn saw its two-game scoreless streak come to an end but not its losing streak as Smith's squad fell to 0-6 with a 35-14 to Carroll. Fairborn scored a first-quarter touchdown to knot the game at 7-7, but Caroll then rattled off 28 unanswered points to close the first half and put away Fairborn. The next two weeks won't be any easier for Fairborn as it faces Greenview (4-2) this coming weekend and Springboro (6-0) next week, before facing 1-5 Miamisburg in its most winnable game the rest of the way.
