Find out how Indiana's 2006 recruits did in the first round of the Indiana high school playoffs, and how others around the country did in their regular season finales.

James Brewer, OL – Indianapolis Arlington dropped a 42-21 decision to Lawrence Central in the first round of sectionals to conclude its season at 4-6.

Ben Chappell, QB Bloomington (Ind.) High School South – A week after claiming its first Conference Indiana title in four years, Bloomington South (7-3) was stunned in the sectional opener to Terre Haute South (4-6), 17-10. South jumped to a 10-0 halftime lead, but turnovers and penalties in the second half contributed to Terre Haute South's come-from-behind win. Chappell completed 24-of-39 passes for 305 yards and one touchdown.

Cody Faulkner, OL - Hamilton Heights (Ind.) H.S. - Hamilton Heights overcame a 28-14 fourth-quarter deficit to knock off Tipton 33-28 in the first round of the sectional. Hamilton Heights quarterback Justin Boser threw three touchdown passes in the game's final 6:10 and wound up 23-of-27 for the game for 360 yards. Hamilton Heights was unable to move the ball on the ground against Tipton, totaling just 38 yards on 19 rushes. Hamilton Heights is now 6-4.

Deonte Mack, DT - Elkhart Central held Mishawaka to just one offensive touchdown, but a slew of defensive touchdowns helped Mishawaka to a 45-6 win in the first round of the sectional. Mishawaka (9-1) scored on three interception returns, one kickoff return, and one blocked punt return to end Elkhart Central's season at 4-6. Elkhart Central quarterback Neill Hoffman was intercepted five times in the contest. Deonte Mack led the Elkart defense with two sacks.

Brad Martin, TE – Marion (Ohio) Pleasant H.S. (7-2) won its sixth straight with a 28-6 win over Mt. Gilead. After starting the year 1-2, Pleasant has won six straight and won its conference's division title.

Greg Middleton, DE - Indianapolis (Ind.) Pike H.S. - Middleton's Pike squad finished the year 4-6 after a 43-10 loss to Decatur Central in Friday night's sectional. Decatur Central quarterback Daniel Carter ran for 208 of his 303 yards in the first half and scored five touchdowns.

Matt Mayberry, OLB/FBHinsdale (Ill.) South H.S. – Matt Mayberry ran for 220 yards and five touchdowns to lead Hinsdale South to a 49-7 win over Leyden. Mayberry helped Hinsdale South improve to 8-1 with his performance, which included touchdown runs of 4, 5, 24, 15 and 2 yards. Hinsdale South is also now 6-0 in the West Suburban Gold and has won the conference championship.

Alex Perry, OT – Morris (Ill.) – Second-ranked Morris (9-0) found itself trailing Plainfield Central 27-21 in the second half, but Perry's squad exploded for 28 fourth-quarter points to escape with a 49-34 win. Tailback John Dergo had been held to 28 yards on 13 carries entering the fourth quarter, but wound up with 175 yards on 17 carries after scoring on runs of 60 and 82 yards in the final period. Dergo is closing in on 2,000 yards for the season, as he now has 1,930 yards through nine games.

Jeff Sanders, TE Springfield (Ill.) Sacred Heart Griffin H.S. – Top-ranked Sacred Heart Griffin wrapped up its regular season with a 42-25 win over Jerseyville, finishing the season 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the Central State Eight Conference. Sanders finished with five catches for 49 yards, while quarterback Bobby Brenneisen was 19-of-31 for 242 yards.

Pete Saxon, IL – Plain City (Ohio) Jonathan Alder H.S. (8-1) continued rolling with a 55-7 victory over Greenfield McClain.

Jarrod Smith, OL – Fairborn (Ohio). Fairborn (1-7) picked up its first win of the season with a 21-0 victory over Miamisburg (2-7).

Mike Stark, OL – Platteville (Wis.). Platteville closed out its regular season with a 28-14 win over Richland Central to finish 8-1. Platteville heads into the playoffs ranked fifth in the state in Division IV. Top Stories
