Keeling To Commit to Hoosiers

Just back from his visit to Bloomington over the weekend, Xavier Keeling talked to about his reasons for picking the Hoosiers just minutes before calling IU Coach Mike Davis to let him know about his decision.

Mike Davis is getting a call tonight that another player is ready to commit to the Hoosiers' 2006 recruiting class.

That player is Xavier Keeling, a 6-6, 218-pound forward from J.O. Johnson H.S. in Huntsville, Ala. Keeling was in Bloomington for his first – and only – official visit this past weekend. That trip to Bloomington was enough to convince him that the IU program was where he wanted to play his college basketball.

"As soon as I get off the phone (with you), I'm going to call Coach Davis tonight to commit," Keeling told

Keeling averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds as a junior, and coupled that with a strong performance this summer on the AAU circuit. Davis saw Keeling play in Las Vegas, which piqued the Hoosier coach's interest.

Keeling's interest in Davis and the Hoosiers, meanwhile, grew by leaps and bounds over the weekend.

"I like Mike Davis so much, and I like the way he coaches," said Keeling. "It's the way I get along with Coach Davis and all the coaches that makes me want to commit."

While Keeling is from Alabama, he is familiar with current Hoosier D.J. White, as the two played together on the AAU circuit for a summer with the Alabama Lasers. The possibility of being reunited with his former prep AAU teammate was another draw for the IU program.

"I would love to play with D.J. for a year if he's still there," said Keeling.

Keeling, who said he wasn't seriously considering any other programs besides Indiana, is expected to play small forward in college. Top Stories
